During the Tour de France of 2015, the Team Giant-Alpecin riders were the first riders in cycling history to wear protective cycling pants, made from Dyneema fibers. The introduction of this technology in Team Giant-Alpecin stems from DSM, which has been a partner of the team since 2015. As a partner in innovation, they share their knowledge in the fields of Materials Sciences and Life Sciences, and within this collaboration the two partners working together to develop innovative materials, clothing and nutrition.
The challenge for DSM/Dyneema® was to make optimal use of the sponsorship of Team Giant-Alpacin in order to launch the brand and generate brand awareness in the international consumer market. The innovative cycling pants were presented with the “I Am A Racer” campaign, and a limited edition was also made available for semi-professional and amateur cyclists.
